This census was taken on the 5th April.

Lower Gornal District
1891 Enumeration District: 41 Lower Gornal.
Enumerator: Stephen S.G. Smith
Boundary of Enumeration
Commence at Duke St Ruiton, at and include the house of Henry Smith, continue on right hand side into Vale St, continue on the right along Vale St round by Polton's Shop which include, continue onward on right hand side only to the bottom of Holloway St take in all houses on that side of the Route including those in Holloway Sq, Ellowes Row, and the Ellowes Hall, Take in Fosters Farm House and the 6 Houses in Southall's Fold opposite also a House near Boundary Wall of Ellowes Hall gardens. Then take all houses in Ruiton St commencing at No 1 and ending at the corner of Robert St not ommitting the Houses in Furlong Walk. .

Commencing at House No 6 Deepdale Bank, Lower Gornal which includes the Cottages that belong to the Earl of Dudley, take in Houses on both sides (not omitting House in Peg Alley of the Horse & Jockey Inn) until reaching the Graveyard Road then continuing taking in Houses on both sides from No 1 to 69 both inclusive also include the Houses of Fisher's at the back not numbered also include Mr Laws the Farm & Houses adjoining, continuing to Coopers Bank at first House on right hand side of Himley Road & taking in all Houses on that side to Red Hall Road & continuing on right hand side of the said road up Temple Street taking the whole of Temple Street to National Schools include the House thereat. This will include all Houses in East & West Street and Garden Walk and the scattered Houses at the back of Route including fields.

Commence at and include first house in Summer Lane to No 61 which include omitting the Parsonage House. Take Abbey St from No 1 to 18 both inclusive Brook St from no 1 to 55 both inclusive Bird St & Gas St the whole of which include omitting the house at Gas Works. Take Musk Lane from 1 to 43 both inclusive. Include all houses not numbered in the defined district.

Commence at Red Hall Road, Lower Gornal on right hand side opposite E Bradley's continuing into Himley Road, along Himley Road on right hand side (only) to Summit Place, continuing on right hand side to bottom of Road to Louise Street (generally called High Street), proceeding on right hand side to Abbey Road until reaching the starting point, include all houses within the Boundary shich will take in Kettles Bank, Chapel Walk, Prices Road, Bull Street and Water Rd. (& also Bank Road)

Description of route shows that Louise Street was previously known as "High Street".

Boundary of Enumeration
Boundary all that part of the village of Lower Gornal commensing at Askew Bridge, including the old Toll Gate House proceding up Himley Rd taking in all houses on left hand side & Summit Place including houses to Straits Rd to the brook which divides Lower Gornal village from Cotwall End, continue along water course & the lifts until it ends then path of Askew Bridge Pool, leaving to the right, continue to the Askew Bridge, the starting point. Include all houses within the Boundary on left hand side of Route, all those in Askew Bridge Road, Hop Yard Lane, Summit Place, and all scattered houses within the Boundary defined. Proceeding to Louise Street at the Junction Inn which include, continuing on right hand side to the bottom of Straits Road taking all houses on the lane side only continuing up the alley taking all Houses in Lower Gornal village being those numbered from 1 to 6a also from 19 to 23 all include, take care to exclude the houses in Cotwall End village, continuing up Lane to the top of Musk Lane, exclude all Houses in Musk Lane then path on the back of the Houses in Musk Lane into New Street, take in all houses on both sides thereof, also those in Wakelams Fold, include all houses in the route except those in Abbey Street. (The whole in the Parlimentary Borough of Wolverhampton).

Upper Gornal District
1891 Enumeration District: 6 Upper Gornal.
Enumerator: Joseph Smith.
Boundary of Enumeration
Commencing Clarence St, Upper Gornal, No 1 to 21 both inclusive, also 3 Houses adjoining, taking in the Firs House, Mrs Howls the Quarries House, Thence to Tudor Place which leads rest of Clarence St from 1 to 10 both inclusive, Then to Kent St from 1 to 45 both inclusive include Netlings New houses, Then to the Inhedge from 1 to 46 both inclusive include 4 houses in Badger St, From there to Eve Lane take in the Parsonage House & 2 houses J.R. Cartwrights / House of Joseph Blackhams & House No 6 adjoining, include all Houses not numbered in the aforesaid district.

Boundary: All that part of the village of Upper Gornal, commencing at Dr Ballenden's which include, take in all houses to No 50 in Dudley Rd to Mr W. H. Lewis's which include, thence procede to The Horse Shoe Inn which include, taking from No. 46 to 113 both inclusive in Kent St include all houses not numbered in the line of route on that side, thence from Dr Biggams (which include) Clarence St. to No. 59 inclusive.
N.B. That part of your district from Mr. W.H. Fowlers to the last House opposite the Leopard Inn in Dudley Road is in the Ecclesiastical district of All Saints, Sedgley, and you will distinguish the same by the letter A.S.S on the schedule, and enter them separately in your book.

Boundary of Enumeration
Commence at Dibdale Lane No 1 to 10 both inclusive, taking in John S Dainty house Charles Jacksons house, then to Dibdale Street 1 to 6 both inclusive. Thence to Highland Road, Shavers End from 1 to 16 both inclusive, which houses are in Sedgley Parish on the workhouse side of the road, (Ending at the workhouses). Continue on the same side of the road taking in all houses to and including Carwrights residence near the Horse Shoe Inn, Thence to Jews Lane & from 1 to 62 both inclusive. Thence to Deepdale Lane 1 to 5 both inclusive, also Roberts Green Farm House, including all houses not numbered in the before defined route.

Commence at Cricket Meadow, Upper Gornal, from No 1 to 13 both inclusive, Pale Street from 1 to 59 both inclusive, Take in the house of the late Mrs Hale in Doctor Street, Take in the Square from No 1 to 15 both inclusive, Hermit Row from 1 to 38 both inclusive, Club Row from 1 to 26 both inclusive, Hill Street from 1 to 54 both inclusive, Take in the Round House in Waterfields stone quary, a portion of Hill Street being called Ox Street include Mr Stephen Fellows house, Take Windmill Street from 1 to 34 both inclusive, Stone Steet from 3 to 25 both inclusive, include all Houses not numbered in the before defined Route.

Commence at Vale St Ruiton at Dan Marshes "Bull and Butcher" Inn, which include, take in all houses on right and left hand side to 38 Vale Street which include. Exclude Mr Poultons grocers Vale St.
Include Ruiton House and Prospect Cottage.
Take in Duke St from 1 to 13 both inclusive, exclude house No 14, take in Vale Row from 1 to 9 both inclusive. Take in the White Lion Inn at the fold also new houses adjoining, thence to Modenhill from 1 to 13. both inclusive also the newly erected houses on right hand side therend, thence take Holloway Street from No 21 to 27 both inclusive also include the Duke William Inn, include all houses not numbered in the before defined route.
