An early photograph of Lois and Richard Marsh.
Can anyone put names to the faces in the above photo?
Richard Marsh and Louis Hale were married in 1885.
The 1891 Census shows Richard and Louis living at 14 Musk Lane,
together with his wife's father James Hale, and their daughter Lottie.
By 1901, Richard and Louis Marsh had moved to Clarence Street, Upper Gornal,
now with an expanded family
- Lottie; Florrie; Beatrice; Annie; Joseph, and sister in Law E. Marsh.
Daughter Florence 'Florrie' was born on 4th May, 1891 at 14 Musk Lane, Gornal Wood.
Florrie married James Stanley at St. Johns, Kates Hill, Dudley in 1920. They lived at Highfield Road, Dudley before moving to Watsons Green Road, Dudley. Florence was the longest serving teacher at St Edmund's Infant School, Dudley.
Daughter Annie Marsh then of Vale Street, married miner Henry Harold Bate at St. James', Lower Gornal on
1st September 1923, they lived at their Cinder Road address all their
married life.
Harold had a wide experience in getting coal and worked at many of the local coal pits until retiring at 71. In later years he worked for H.S. Pitt driving and maintaining their Locomotives, Winston Churchill and the Peter. The couple featured in the local newspaper when they celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Joseph Marsh married Dorothy E. Marsh (yes same surname!) at St. Peters, Upper Gornal
in 1927.
Joseph Marsh and his wife Dolly continued with an already established family fruit & veg. business, with a stall in Brierley Hill market, Joe built up a small empire in fruit & vegetables. Five generations of the family were involved in the business right up until 1993. ~
